Tales of Arise Blends Classic Systems With Updated Field and Battle Mechanics During 12-Minutes of Gameplay

Famitsu released a few gameplay recordings from Bandai Namco’s Tales of Arise.

The gameplay highlights a few key aspects of the gameplay that fans have been wondering about. During Tales of Arise, players will navigate the field similar to previous titles. The HUD’s only display is the map, but the environments are large, with enormous, almost to-scale monsters roam the area.

Further, players can swim and interact with the environment to obtain materials and treasure. NPCs are scattered about who can be spoken to so the team can progress quests and purchase items from.

The battle system is largely similar to previous titles, where players encounter an enemy and enter a battle screen. This is where one character is controlled, and players can instruct or switch to other party members. The battle system allows enemies to be juggled by stringing together combos as well. It seems players can press on the direction tab to call out to team members to use a special attack.

Tales of Arise advances the graphics with this new “Atmospheric Shader,” which is meant to present the world as if it were a hand-drawn painting. Further, the combat has evolved, allowing for a better sense of spectacle and direct player feedback based upon their actions. The graphics, combat system, characters, and story all work together to present a vivid and realized world that the developer hopes will immerse players.

Tales of Arise is launching worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC on September 10, 2021.
