Sword Art Online Variant Showdown Revealed in Trailer; Simultaneous Global Release Planned for 2022

Bandai Namco announced that Sword Art Online Variant Showdown will launch on mobile devices in 2022 as a simultaneous global release.

The launch of Sword Art Online Variant Showdown will coincide with the 10th anniversary of the anime series Sword Art Online. The game will follow Kirito and company through another questline in the virtual space.

Players can pre-register now at the game’s official website to earn digital goods when the game launches. Sword Art Online Variant Showdown follows the game of Cross Edge, which was designed by a middle school genius. Kirito has heard of this game before, but two rumors come to his attention. The first: There’s a mysterious player who attacks out of nowhere. Losing to them means losing a portion of your own memories. The second: This player goes around wearing a hood pulled low to hide their eyes… Kirito can’t help but recall Laughing Coffin, the player-killer guild he faced in SAO.

Sword Art Online Variant Showdown will be a free-to-play game available on iOS and Android devices. More news about the game will be delivered soon.

A trailer was released that shows a teaser of the game to hype players for the new adventure written by Reki Kawahara.
