Bandai Namco Japan has announced a new console Sword Art Online game, Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam in 2023. Offline single-player utilization will be supported alongside online with up to four players.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated on whether Bandai Namco’s Western branches announce an official English localization. If I had to guess, it’s possible that the news might arrive later this week. Humorously, “Last Recollection” was trademarked earlier this year, and many assumed it would be a .hack collection. Alas, that has not ended up being the case.
For now, you can view the announcement trailer for Sword Art Online: Last Recollection below:
UPDATE 11/7/2022: An official English trailer has been shared, revealing the same platforms and release window as the Japanese trailer:
The previous console game, Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris, is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintedo Switch, and PC via Steam.
Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris begins with Kirito entering a mysterious new world known as the Underworld. In this place, NPCs behave more like humans. As Kirito, players will be able to experience the scenes from the anime arc where Kirito encounters Eugeo, Alice, the Administrator, and other characters.
The game will be an accurate retelling of the anime series. During the game, Kirito will find himself in the “Underworld,” a mysterious virtual world that is established during the Alicization arc from the anime. The game will feature memorable battles and an expansive world to explore as Kirito fights through this new adventure.
