Super Mario Bros. Movie Becomes Most Successful Video Game Movie Adaptation; Surpasses $500 Million
The Super Mario Bros. Movie by Nintendo and Illumination has recently been confirmed to be the biggest and most successful video movie adaptation ever made, achieving over $500 million worldwide since its initial premiere earlier this month.
The film will undeniably see further success in the coming weeks, with it not even yet available in Japan, scheduled to premiere on April 28, 2023. Regardless of the divisive opinions on the movie, like the low critic score contrasting with the high audience score and the latter also having its fair share of division, this is a pretty big win. The curse of video game adaptations has been almost non-existent in recent years, and this movie’s box office success has reinforced that reality.
In the realm of Mario games, fans have been getting a little antsy. Hopefully, another large-scale Switch release will be announced soon. Miyamoto has been vague on information but has told fans to await future Nintendo Directs.
The latest Mario video game release is Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope for Nintendo Switch.

The game has also received a free demo and its first DLC, “The Tower of Doooom.”
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope is the sequel to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, but it can be enjoyed entirely standalone since their narratives are not all that prominent.
Combat has received a significant shakeup, abolishing the tile-based system of the debut entry and instead allowing for free movement within a limited range. Further, there is far more customization, and world map exploration has received a drastic overhaul, truly making for a stellar sequel.
