Developer Kitsune Games has announced an upcoming followup to their hit platformer, Super Bernie World which has more than 250,000 downloads across Steam and itch.io.
In collaboration with the studio behind 2064: Read Only Memories, MidBoss, and console publisher Ratalaika Games, Kitsune Tails has been announced.
Kitsune Tails is a platformer molded after Japanese mythology and diverse relationships. Players take control of Yuzu, a young and inexperienced kitsune who ends up in serious trouble after her first outing. A healer by the name of Akko saves Yuzu from death, and as time passes, a romance develops between the two. Unfortunately, however, Yuzu’s childhood friend and mentor has other plans and kidnaps Akko. With the aid of a special amulet granted to her by the goddess, Yuzu sets out on a journey to save Akko.
Emma ‘Eniko’ Maassen, Kitsune Games founder, had this to say regarding the title’s announcement:
“Secrets are a staple of classic platformers, and we wanted to use that as a vehicle for telling a story of complicated relationships and self discovery. Only by using all of the skills imbued by Yuzu’s adorable outfits and other tools she’ll collect on her journey can you really get the whole tale, but Kitsune Tails will have plenty of accessibility options allowing players to define the depth of challenge.”
Kitsune Tails will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Linux via Steam and itch.io in Quarter 1 of 2022. A Kickstarter for the title is stated to launch in mid-2021.
