Summoners War Gets an Animated Short Film From ‘The Walking Dead’ Series Producers
To celebrate 100 million downloads for Com2uS’s mobile fantasy RPG, Summoners War, a seven-minute animated short film “Friends & Rivals” based on the mobile title’s characters has been released. The animated short film is a result of a collaboration between Com2uS and Skybound North — the Vancouver based company of Skybound Entertainment, the makers of The Walking Dead comic book series.
It’s an impressive feat to be able to reach so many downloads, and in a press release, Casey Lee, vice president of GameEVIL Com2uS USA, shared how it’s all because of Summoners War fanbase, “100 million downloads is impossible to achieve without the sincere love and support from our Summoners War fans around the world.” Also, Casey shared the reasons behind making and releasing an animated short film based on the game, “Starting with this film, we wanted to give our fans many different ways to enjoy the Summoners War universe outside of the mobile game experience.”
We are likely to see even more from Summoners War as Casey mentioned that “the animated short film is just the tip of the iceberg” and that Com2uS has plans to continue to work with Skybound to “expand the Summoners War franchise into all sorts of narrative extensions including comics, books, a television series and more.”
The folks that worked on the film are definitely some all-stars since the film was produced with co-executive producers Robert Kirkman, the founder of Skybound and the creator of the Walking Dead series, David Alpert, the CEO of Skybound Entertainment and also the executive producer of the Walking Dead series, as well as Catherine Winder, the CEO of Skybound North and creator of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Angry Birds Movie.
In addition, the film was written by Paul Furminger, (known for I, Robot, Night at the Museum, and Mortal Kombat: Legacy), and John Zuur Platten (Known for console games, Jurassic World Evolution, and Apache: Air Assault).
