Streets of Rage 4 Developers Detail How They Approached Creating a Sequel to a Beloved Series
Dotemu launched a new video for the Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games’ co-developed upcoming brawler Streets of Rage 4, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The video highlights how the developers approached the heavy task of developing a sequel to such a retro and beloved series. The process involved them playing the first three titles over and over again and finding the best parts to bring to the game. They’ve also tried to replicate the arcade feel of the punch, which paid off in the end, in their eyes.
The video also highlights the art direction and how the brought these retro mechanics to a modern space.
Streets of Rage 4 continues the Sega action brawler series as players choose between playable characters Axel and Blaze as they walk the streets and kick ass. The character models and visuals were headed by the team who put out 2017’s Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake as they bring their unique retro style shading to a new series.
In case you missed it, check out our preview of the game after going hands-on with it during PAX West 2019. We were also able to play as the newest character Cherry Hunter.
