Streets of Rage 4 Reveals Retro Mode Featuring Pixel Characters With Classic Movesets

Dotemu revealed Retro Mode for the Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games’ co-developed brawler Streets of Rage 4, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam for $24.99.

No, a release date hasn’t been shared, but the publisher released a new trailer showing off a retro mode. This mode includes unlockable pixel art characters with movesets and abilities unique to their respective games. For example, Streets of Rage’s fighters can call the cops for their special moves, while Streets of Rage 3’s characters can sprint and roll through environments.

With the edition of these pixel characters, the roster has been brought to 17. Furthermore, players are able to switch between soundtracks of the original games while they are playing through levels.

Streets of Rage 4 continues the Sega action brawler series as players choose between playable characters Axel and Blaze as they walk the streets and kick ass. The character models and visuals were headed by the team who put out 2017’s Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake as they bring their unique retro style shading to a new series.

Streets of Rage 4 is in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
