Steins;Gate Fan Patch Implements Old Japan-Only Cosplay Costumes

Recently, the Science Adventure community fan group Committee of Zero, known for patching the franchise’s PC releases for general improvements primarily stemming from overarching terminology and more, has released a new notable patch for the official Steam version of Steins;Gate.

To provide needed context, when Steins;Gate launched in Japan for PC pre-HD quality, there was a series of cosplay costumes each in-game character could wear, referencing properties both in and out of the Science Adventure universe. Unfortunately, these cosplays weren’t in subsequent releases of the visual novel, but Committee of Zero has implemented them back in with upscaling.

A list of which Steins;Gate characters are cosplaying who, alongside the latter’s origins, are listed below via Committee of Zero’s website.

  • Okabe Rintaro cosplays Zero from Code Geass
  • Shiina Mayuri cosplays Shirley Fenette from Code Geass
  • Hashida Itaru cosplays Jotaro Kujo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
  • Makise Kurisu cosplays C.C. from Code Geass
  • Kiryu Moeka cosplays Rain Mikamura from Mobile Fighter G Gundam
  • Urushibara Luka cosplays Seira Orgel from Chaos;Head Noah (Blood Tune)
  • Faris NyanNyan cosplays Doronjo from Yatterman
  • Amane Suzuha cosplays Kusanagi Motoko from Ghost in the Shell
  • Tennouji Yuugo cosplays Doraemon
  • Tennouji Nae cosplays Unnamed Magical Girl from Miko Miko Overdrive (Pretty Cure parody)
  • Dr. Nakabachi cosplays the Metal Upa from Steins;Gate
  • Luka’s Dad cosplays Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid
  • Faris’ Dad cosplays Lupin from Lupin the Third
  • 4°C cosplays Darth Spider from Chaos;Head Noah (Spark Wars)

Instructions and the files needed for installation are viewable via Committee of Zero’s hub page for Steins;Gate patching.

Images of some of the cosplays in-game are viewable below:

Additionally, while writing this article, I stumbled upon an old tweet thread by Twitter user @Link306_ containing the renders for these cosplay costumes, so immense thanks to them.

You can view these cosplay renders via our gallery below—apologies for Mr. Braun’s…traumatizing appearance.

Also, keep in mind that these are the original versions of the sprites, so they are not the upscaled iterations by Committee of Zero.

Chaos;Head Noah / Chaos;Child Double Pack is now available on Nintendo Switch. Further, Chaos;Head Noah is now available on Steam.

Chaos:Head Noah can be seen as the director’s cut version of the original Chaos;Head which was a PC-only release in Japan. It expanded upon the story by adding routes for each of the heroines.

Chaos;Child is a visual novel taking place 6 years after Chaos;Head Noah, focusing on a new group of protagonists. This title did receive an official English localization from publisher PQube on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and by publisher Spike Chunsoft on PC via Steam.
