Steins;Gate Sequel in Concept Phase, Live-Action Series Still in Production

Following the announcement of Steins;Gate Re:Boot, a still largely unknown project planned for a 2025 release, CBR interviewed producer Tatsuya Matsubara about the second entry of the Science Adventure series.

Besides discussing the challenges and decision-making regarding the beloved anime adaptation of the original visual novel, Matsubara revealed two key pieces of information.

Firstly, he confirmed that the live-action Steins;Gate series by Hollywood, first announced in 2020, is still in production. However, details on the project itself have not been revealed.

Secondly, Matsubara announced that the Steins;Gate sequel, commonly called Steins;??, is in its concepts phase. Matsubara’s task consists of translating the concept into the game’s scenario, so we’re still seemingly quite a ways off from this title’s release. This comment also confirms that Steins;Gate Re:Boot is a separate project entirely for those who were unsure.

…I think it’s already been announced, but there is a sequel to which we are putting the concepts together right now, and my task is then to take this concept and translate it into a scenario for the game.

Steins;Gate follows Rintarou Okabe, who accidentally stumbles upon the ability to send text messages to the past, altering the present. Alongside his friends Mayuri and Itaru Daru, Okabe experiments with these time-altering messages. Their discoveries attract the attention of the organization SERN, forcing Okabe into a dangerous struggle to protect his friends and maintain his grip on reality.

Then, Okabe meets Kurisu Makise, a prodigious scientist. Together, they uncover the mechanics and consequences of time travel. However, Okabe must confront the emotional and moral cost of changing the past, forcing him to navigate between multiple timelines, or worldlines, to prevent needless suffering. The original visual novel was remade as Steins;Gate Elite, featuring an anime-style presentation.

For the Steins;Gate 14th anniversary, franchise singer Kanako Itou had live performances of several vocal songs from the Steins;Gate releases.

The Steins;Gate 15th Anniversary Pack for Japan includes Steins;Gate Elite, Steins;Gate 0, My Darling’s Embrace, Linear Bounded Phenogram, and 8-Bit ADV. The packaging features a new logo, potentially teasing further developments for the series.

The Steins;Gate 15th anniversary concert featuring several notable individuals is on the way.

The latest entry, Anonymous;Code was launched Westward last year. Check out our review.
