Spike Chunsoft has announced that Steins;Gate: Variant Space Octet will be released in the West for the first time as Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space on Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. News on how to get the game will be shared at a later date.

Spike Chunsoft has announced the Steins;Gate Re:Boot Digital Deluxe Edition for Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.

The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game, a digital visual book, a digital soundtrack, and footage from the STEINS;GATE 15th LIVE – ONE WORLD – concert with English subtitles.

Unlike the choice-based gameplay found in modern visual novels, Steins;Gate Octet of Shifting Space recreates classic text parser adventure gameplay, requiring players to type English commands to interact with the world and progress through the story. Modern platforms will support both software keyboards and USB keyboards.Multiple display modes are included, ranging from eight-color RGB graphics to green monochrome monitor styles.

The soundtrack has also been designed to match the era, recreating the FM synthesis and PSG sound chips found in 1980s computers. Composer Takeshi Abo personally handled the music for the project.

Originally released for PC in 2011, Steins;Gate: Variant Space Octet serves as a sequel to the original Steins;Gate and features a crossover story with Chaos;Head. We actually had a dedicated featured article about this title, emphasizing its connectivity to Chaos;Head that most Steins;Gate fans are not aware of.

Steins;Gate follows Rintarou Okabe, who accidentally discovers the ability to send text messages to the past, thereby altering the present. Alongside his friends Mayuri and Itaru Daru, Okabe experiments with these time-altering messages. Their discoveries attract the attention of the organization SERN, forcing Okabe into a dangerous struggle to protect his friends and maintain his grip on reality.

Then, Okabe meets Kurisu Makise, a prodigious scientist. Together, they uncover the mechanics and consequences of time travel. However, Okabe must confront the emotional and moral cost of changing the past, forcing him to navigate between multiple timelines, or worldlines, to prevent needless suffering.
