Square Enix Japan Survey Asks Fans What Remakes & Remasters Team Asano Should Develop

Square Enix Japan has recently launched a survey fans can take online, asking various questions pertaining to development staff Team Asano. Many of the questions are fairly self-explanatory and to be expected, but two noteworthy optional ones requiring a written response are the following:

  • Which video game genre would you like to see Team Asano develop?
  • What kind of games would you like to see remade or remastered in the future? (Not limited to Square Enix titles)

Since there aren’t any multiple-choice options for these questions, it isn’t easy to gauge the team’s ballpark mentality. Still, it’s undeniably exciting to see them present two massive-scale questions, such as those, as it emphasizes their confidence in their capabilities.

For the former question, it’s a tad too broad to come up with anything, but I suppose seeing them tackle something more action-oriented would be cool. Then again, with Square Enix embracing action more and more lately, perhaps it’d be best for Team Asano to remain a primarily turn-based developer.

As for the second question, one can speculate endlessly. Of course, the apparent hopes for remasters are Bravely Default and Bravely Second. Having all three games on the same platform would be pretty sweet. As for other possibilities, a remake or remaster of the beloved Final Fantasy Tactics under their HD-2D belt would certainly garner praise. Regardless, it’s impossible to assume anything concrete. The “not limited to Square Enix titles” mention is curious, though.

And unfortunately, only those with a Japanese Square Enix member account can only take this survey. Thanks to our team’s Ryuji for doing so. If this survey becomes globally available, we will update this article. Its current availability lasts until the end of February 8, 2023, Japan time.

If you missed it, check out our round-up article on Octopath Traveler II, which houses all of its confirmed gameplay and character information.

Octopath Traveler II will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on February 24, 2023.
