Square Enix President Shares 2022 New Year’s Message; Mentions Interest in Metaverse & NFTs

Before we get into the news, Happy New Year! Hope 2022 is a prosperous year for everyone. Now, on to the news…Square Enix’s president, Yosuke Matsuda, released a letter wishing everyone a Happy New Year while reminiscing on topics that caught his attention during 2021. The most notable topics from the letter include the metaverse and the NFT market.

He believes that the metaverse will see a meaningful transition to a business phase in 2022 alongside more sophisticated blockchain technology, and other technological evolutions that have taken place in a variety of fields over the past several years. He also hopes to see NFTs get an eventual foothold in the market, so much so that they become as familiar as dealings that utilize physical goods.

Furthermore, he mentions that in 2022, Square Enix will be exploring potential efforts in the cloud space from two primary perspectives, the first being “leveraging cloud technologies to distribute content” and the second being “developing content that offers customers new forms of excitement enabled by the cloud’s attributes,” as faster network capabilities such as 5G become more and more widespread, creating a sort of catalyst for creating new forms of excitement that expand upon the content development capabilities for which we are known.
