Square Enix Shares Official Guitar Cover of “Emil” from NieR

Square Enix has uploaded a new official cover on their music YouTube channel. Takanori Goto arranged and performed “Emil” from the beloved action JRPGs NieR Gestalt and NieR Replicant on guitar, initially composed by MONACA.

Additionally, Yohei “Billy” Horiuchi recorded and mixed the performance.

“Emil” is one of the most iconic tracks from the original NieR, a release already bursting at the seams with countless classics. Despite the alteration in instrumentation, this guitar cover still instills the song with a familiar sense of somber nostalgia reminiscent of the original composition.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is a remake of NieR Gestalt, which was released exclusively in Japan. The series is a spin-off of the Drakengard series but found fame after the release of NieR: Automata.

During gameplay, players will join a rather untraditional party of characters as they each fight against enemies known as Shades. The gameplay also allows players the chance to take on side missions and even fish. Voiced lines have been added to the game with the same cast.
