Square Enix Aiming to Make NFTs Focused on Stories; Dragon Quest & Final Fantasy-Related Blockchain Projects Are Not in the Works Yet
Square Enix recently released its 2022 Shareholders Meeting Report, discussing various topics about the company’s profit in several sectors. Their mobile market is performing well with games such as SINoAlice and the many Final Fantasy mobile titles. Final Fantasy XIV has impressively risen by over 50%, proving that this beloved title still has even more room for growth. The Japanese-exclusive Dragon Quest X also has its success highlighted alongside general profits for Square’s officially licensed merchandise.
Aside from those factors, though, the most troubling subject matter has to do with NFTs. Interestingly, as part of the company’s future NFT implementation, they want to create NFTs that will somehow focus on stories. Thankfully, Square Enix’s president, Yosuke Matsuda, clarified that they aren’t yet in the process of developing or even planning Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy Blockchain titles, but who knows when that will no longer be the case? That stage of crafting these “games” may arise sooner than we expect. Story-based NFT projects are over the horizon, it seems.
For his 2022 New Year’s Message, Yosuke Matsuda mentioned an interest in NFTs, Blockchain technology specifically, and the Metaverse.
