Square Enix Uploads Final Fantasy VIII Opening Movie for Game’s 25th Anniversary

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy VIII, and to celebrate the occasion, Square Enix has uploaded the game’s opening movie onto YouTube. Additionally, on Twitter and YouTube, they have asked fans what their favorite memories of this somewhat controversial entry are. While indeed a minor celebratory act, having an official upload of this fantastic opening is still neat. “Liberi Fatali” is one of the most well-known songs in the franchise, contained within an opening sequence that has aged remarkably well.

In Final Fantasy VIII, the military nation of Galbadia has declared war on the Dukedom of Dollet, who must hire the mercenary force, SeeD. Players control Squall Leonhart, a new member of SeeD, together with his friends, and Rinoa Heartilly, a member of a resistance group, who get pulled into the war. From then on, the cast embarks on an epic quest to save the world.

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
