Splitgate: Arena Warfare Goes Free-to-Play and Gets PC Launch Date
1047 Games announced that their Portal arena shooter Splitgate: Arena Warfare will launch as a free-to-play title on PC-via Steam on May 22.
Splitgate: Arena Warfare is a first-person shooter with a blend of different features. During gameplay, players will be able to shoot portals around the map to which they can transport themselves behind enemy lines or out of danger quickly. The game also borrows the look of games like Halo: Combat Evolved, but the developers have put their own balances into the game to make it natural for modern players.
“As Splitgate evolved, we realized that players would be best served with a free-to-play model. We want to ensure that everyone who wants to play has the opportunity to do so,” said Ian Proulx, CEO and co-founder of 1047 Games. “Rest assured this will not detract from its hyper-competitive design – all items for sale in the game are purely cosmetic.”
Currently, Splitgate: Arena Warfare is available for free on Steam now from May 3 through May 6 for an open beta weekend. Players will be able to preview the game’s ranked, unranked, and custom matches as well as check out some of the game’s weapons, portal guns, and customizable options. However, ranks and progression will reset after the beta.
