Iam8bit announced they’ll team up with Thunder Lotus Games to publish a physical release of Spiritfarer on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on July 27, 2021, distribute by Skybound Games.
The game’s physical version will include a 96-page digital art book, six collectible postcards and sticker stamp sets, and a digital download of the soundtrack. The PS4 version will retail for $29.99, and the Switch version will retail for $34.99.
Spiritfarer has players take on the role of a ferry master for those who have recently become deceased. The first set of actions is to build a boat to explore the world. During gameplay, players will be able to farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft to make their way across the seas as you tend to the needs of your spirit friends. This is all to see them to the afterlife, and it’s a rather emotional journey as you make these memories together, all the while knowing one day you’ll need to let them go.
Spiritfarer is being developed by Thunder Lotus, the team behind games like Joton and Sundered, which were both gorgeous-looking games. The team aims to grab players’ emotions with this more relaxing journey that focuses on a heavy subject.
