Sonic the Hedgehog Franchise Sells Over 5.8 Million Game Units During Previous Fiscal Year

Sega Sammy has released their financial results for the fiscal year lasting between April 2021 through March 2022. Throughout this time frame, the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has been stated to have sold over 5.8 million game units worldwide (referenced on page 20). Additionally, Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers are emphasized as significant releases for the rest of the year, with increased franchise awareness and growth being an evident goal.

The multimedia facet of the franchise, with releases like the second film, Sonic Prime, and the upcoming Knuckles spin-off, will serve to further amplify the brand’s identity in the cultural consciousness.

Congratulations to Sega for this lofty milestone, and here’s hoping Sonic Frontiers pushes those numbers up even more.
