Sonic the Hedgehog Creators Reveal ‘Balan Wonderworld’ to be Published by Square Enix

Square Enix revealed that they will publish Balan Wonderworld, the first game from developer Balan Company, comprised of developers of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Balan Wonderworld is being developed as a family-friendly platformer to release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC for a Spring 2021 release. The game is set in a whimsical land accessed through a theatre. Players will assume the role of Leo and Emma and embark on an adventure led by the maestro named Balan. Their goal is to restore happiness and balance to the hearts and minds of anyone they encounter.

The team working on Balan Wonderworld includes director, Yuji Naka (Sonic the Hedgehog Franchise Creator, Team Sonic Co-Founder), and Character Designer, Naoto Ohshima (Sonic the Hedgehog, Doctor Eggman, Team Sonic Co-Founder). This marks the first game the two have worked on together in 20 years.

Balan Wonderworld features 80 different costumes to collect that change Leo’s and Emma’s appearance but also grants them new abilities and powers to overcome obstacles that they encounter. Abilities include ways to walk in the air, freeze time, and manipulate objects.
