Sega, Netflix, and Man of Action Entertainment have announced that the second season of their animated series, Sonic Prime, will launch on Netflix on July 13, 2023. The first season is currently available on the same service, comprising eight episodes.
Sonic Prime is described as a “journey of self-discovery and redemption” for the titular protagonist. Following a battle with Dr. Eggman, this show’s version of the multiverse, the “Shatterverse,” opens up, throwing Sonic and his friends away to different dimensions. Sonic is then tasked with saving the Shatterverse as well as his friends, who he has been taking for granted.
While I enjoyed Sonic Boom more, primarily due to its humor, Sonic Prime is still a fairly enjoyable time. Some of the character writing and story pacing weren’t my cup of tea, but it got the job done. I’m hoping season two improves the banter.
The latest Sonic the Hedgehog video game release, Sonic Frontiers, has sold over 3.2 million units worldwide.
For those who missed the news, Sonic Frontiers received a post-launch roadmap with three planned content drops. The first was recently released, and the third will be the most significant, containing new playable characters and story content.
- Ian Flynn, the game’s original writer, has been confirmed to return to the DLC’s third wave, which will contain a new storyline.
- Interestingly, Sonic’s iconic spin dash technique will seemingly arrive in the second content drop.
Sonic Frontiers is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Sonic Origins Plus will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, on June 23, 2023.
