Sonic the Hedgehog Movie “Knuckles” TV Series Begins Filming; Several Role Reprisals

Paramount Pictures and Sega have announced that the previously confirmed Knuckles Paramount+ television series of the Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movies has begun filming in London. Fans can look forward to Idris Elba, who voiced Knuckles in the second Sonic movie, reprising his role.

Further, Adam Pally and Tika Sumpter will reprise their roles as Wade Whipple and Maddie, respectively. Other actors set to be featured are Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi, Rory McCann, and Ellie Taylor.

The familiar Jeff Fowler, who directed both currently released Sonic movies, will direct the first episode. Additionally, the screenwriter for the second Sonic movie, John Whittington, wrote the pilot and will be the head writer and executive producer for Knuckles. Brian Schacter and James Madejski will also accompany his efforts.

For those unaware, this Knuckles television series is set to occur between the second and third Sonic films, the latter of which is scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 20, 2024.

The series’ premise is the following:

“Knuckles agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.”

The latest franchise video game outing, Sonic Frontiers, is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Sonic Frontiers features an “open-zone” gameplay style, where players will freely explore five distinct islands housing unique biomes, puzzles, enemies, and more. Combat is a direct focus this time, with several enemy types to best and a skill tree to peruse. Moreover, the Cyber Space levels provide some familiar speed-centric linearity veteran fans can embrace.

Sonic Origins Plus will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, on June 23, 2023.
