Sonic 06 Has Been Relisted on Xbox 360 for $4.99

Interestingly, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) has been relisted on the digital Xbox 360 storefront for currently unknown reasons. However, it is not backward compatible with Xbox One or the Xbox Series X|S consoles. Sonic Unleashed was recently made backward compatible on modern Xbox platforms, so hopefully, the same occurs with Sonic 06.

The reasoning for this game’s initial delisting, along with several other Sonic the Hedgehog games over a decade ago, was due to an effort to increase the brand’s values after collectively poor reception. Still, I don’t believe anyone can rightfully argue that delisting titles is necessarily a positive (unless it’s a Cyberpunk 2077 situation), especially as time passes and they become more difficult to obtain physically.

Talking ill of Sonic 06 is pretty old hat at this point, so I won’t waste time doing that. I do have some sentimentality for the game, though, for as objectively broken as it is, and I can’t help but wonder if Sega intends on making this infamous title backward compatible too. We’ll just have to wait and find out.

If you have an Xbox 360, you can purchase Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) for $4.99.

Sega has announced that Sonic Origins, the collection containing Sonic the Hedgehog 12Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, is available to pre-order for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store for $39.99. Additionally, the release date has been confirmed as June 23, 2022, Sonic’s birthday.
