PlatinumGames and Hamster Corporation announced that players can download a free demo of their shmup, Sol Cresta, on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on September 13, 2022.
The free demo allows players to play through the opening moments of the story mode, Dramatic Mode. The entire story is also available to purchase as a standalone DLC. Arcade Mode is also available with Stage 1 with the final boss available.
Sol Cresta gameplay features where players will be able to dock with friendly ships to unlock new powerups. Further, ships can be reconfigured during a stage to change bullet spreads, and ships can also fire in multiple directions depending on the configuration. The team has dubbed this “Free-Form docking and shooting action.”
PlatinumGames initially teased this game as a joke, but the developer has recently begun self-publishing their titles as well with the release of Wonderfull 101 Remastered for modern platforms. It seems they won’t be hosting a crowdfunding campaign for Sol Cresta, which was speculated when it was revealed.
