The developers of the psychological horror visual novel Slay the Princess have announced Slay the Princess – The Pristine Cut, a free upgrade to the original game planned to launch in 2024.

Fans can anticipate several new chapters, significant expansions to several chapters already in the game, and more unspecified content. In the message announcing this news, the developers also thanked fans for their continued support since they’ve reached a level of success that gives their studio the freedom to make their titles the way they want.

Additionally, it’s clarified that the base game’s price ($17.99) will remain the same as it is now, even after the free update launches.

You can view Black Tabby Games’ full message to players below:

    Hi everyone,

Thank you all so much for supporting our work and helping Slay the Princess reach a level of success that gives our studio the freedom to make our games completely on our own terms and the way we want to make them moving forward!

We’re extremely proud of what we’ve made with Slay the Princess, but now that the dust from launch has started to settle, we think we can make it even better. So we’d like to announce The Pristine Cut edition, releasing next year (date TBD). We don’t want to give away too many details just yet, but you can expect:

    • Several new chapters.
    • Significant expansions to several chapters already in the game.
    • And more to be revealed at a later date!

To thank you all for your ardent support, Slay the Princess – The Pristine Cut will be a completely free upgrade to the game, and the base price will remain the same as it is now.

Thank you all so much, and we hope you have a great holiday season!

Slay the Princess is described as a “cheeky horror tragicomedy” where players encounter a princess who has been imprisoned in a cabin deep in the woods. However, the player is simply tasked with ending the princess’ life because she is fated to bring an end to the world. Still, you must decide for yourself who to trust since the memories of the characters are a little hazy.

Slay the Princess has you choose how to proceed through the story, but you will die plenty. Reacting to new information will change the outcome of the narrative, which has many endings depending on the choices. The choices can also change the princess, causing her to change into a demon or a normal princess.

The death ends don’t mean you need to restart from scratch. Players can use the time loop feature to make a different choice. There are ten different endings, and it’s all fully voiced in English.

Slay the Princess is available on PC via Steam.
