EA and developer Full Circle have announced that skate. will enter Early Access on September 16 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA app. Yes, the long-awaited return of the skateboarding franchise is actually happening, no more wishful thinking or pre-pre-alpha demos.
The new entry, simply titled skate., is set in San Vansterdam, a sprawling open-world city with four unique neighborhoods filled with skateable terrain. From rooftop ramps to converted churches, the city is designed as a multiplayer hub where players can trick, climb, spectate, and customize their sessions with friends. The game supports cross-play and cross-progression at launch, and it’s free-to-play.
“Community is the heart of skateboarding, and it’s the heart of skate.,” said Jeff Seamster, Head of Creative on skate. “From day one, we’ve aimed to create an open, welcoming space shaped by players. We’ve built this game alongside our community – listening, learning and evolving together. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just dropped in, skate. is a place to express yourself, connect and grow. No gatekeepers, no barriers – just a city built for skating and a community that keeps it alive. Early Access is a huge milestone in that journey, and we’re hyped to keep growing San Vansterdam with our crew around the world.”
Build, Watch, Compete
Beyond skating, players can freely explore the city on foot, place custom ramps and rails with the Quick Drop feature, and jump into live events using the Spectaport tool. Modes like Line Challenges, Own The Spot, and large-scale Throwdowns aim to keep the action varied, while rotating world challenges and seasonal updates promise a steady stream of new content.
Years in the Making
It’s no secret that skate. has had one of the longer development cycles in recent memory. First teased back in 2020, Full Circle has involved the community every step of the way, using extensive playtesting and feedback to shape the direction of the project. According to the team, that collaboration will continue throughout Early Access with new content and tweaks arriving each season.
A new trailer was released showcasing the game’s open world, character customization, and cooperative play features.
