Silent Hill 2 Remake Announced for PS5 & PC; Bloober Team

During Konami’s Silent Hill Transmission showcase, the developer announced a remake of Silent Hill 2 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam. Wishlisting for the game is available. However, the title will not release for other platforms within a year after this initial launch. Further, no expected release timing was shared.

A brief trailer was shown featuring notable characters and the new presentation. Bloober Team, known for Layers of Fear and The Medium, is working on this title. Concept artist Masahiro Ito is collaborating on the project alongside composer Akira Yamaoka. According to the team, their goal is to keep the original charm of the timeless classic that was the PlayStation 2 version and to give it a new form that will draw and immerse players even further.

PlayStation Blog shared a post by the Creative Director & Lead Designer at Bloober Team, Mateusz Lenart. Most of what he talks about is general. Still, he emphasizes motion capture for emotive facial expressions, Unreal Engine 5 for enhanced audio and visuals, and Lumen, “a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes.” There is also the Nanite technology, used for providing realism.

Moreover, 3D audio and the WWise sound engine will grant stellar sound design. Lastly, exploration will be made seamless thanks to the incorporated console SSD. No loading screens will be present.

You can view the trailer below, accompanied by several messages from staff working on the game.

Having received a letter from his deceased wife, James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: SILENT HILL. There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her…

“My name…is Maria,” the woman smiles. Her face, her voice… She’s just like her.

Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.
