The official Youtube channel for Atlus Japan has shared the 97th Daily Demon video for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V. This entry highlights Nue, a monster from Japanese mythology who has the head of a monkey, the limbs of a tiger, a snake as a tail, and the body of a raccoon dog. It was murdered by a samurai in The Tale of Heike for supposedly being the cause of the Emperor’s sickly state.
Nue wields Axel Claw and Mazionga, making it a sturdy physical-based demon with an affinity for the lightning element. Nue is a mainstay in Shin Megami Tensei, having appeared in most, if not every title, debuting in the series’ initial outing. However, it is a very recent addition to the Persona series, with its first appearance being in Persona 5.
You can view the Shin Megami Tensei V Daily Demon video introducing Nue below:
Shin Megami Tensei V takes place after a murder occurs in modern-day Tokyo that blocks the game’s protagonist from walking home. The detour may have been due to fate or another force, but he finds himself buried and unconscious.
When he awakens, he finds himself in a new Tokyo, a wasteland after the apocalypse known as Da’at. He quickly finds out that he’s not alone, as demons are closing in on his location. However, a mighty being known as a Nahobino appears and saves him. With this power, the protagonist can venture through Da’at and hopefully get some answers about what happened to his former home.
Shin Megami Tensei V is releasing for Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2021.
