Shin Megami Tensei V Daily Demon Video #95 Showcases Tantric Deity Dakini

The official Youtube channel for Atlus Japan has shared the 95th Daily Demon video for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V. This entry highlights Dakini, a tantric (means “woven together in Sanskrit) deity in Hinduism and Buddhism that is a manifestation of enlightened energy resulting in a female appearance. In Japanese Buddhism, they are depicted as fox spirits. She is also notable for devouring human flesh.

Dakini wields Maragion, Fatal Sword, and Poison Breath, making her a demon capable both magically and physically while boasting an affinity for the fire element. Dakini is somewhat of a mainstay in Shin Megami Tensei, having appeared in several titles. However, she is a newcomer to the Persona series, with her first appearance there being in the most recent mainline entry, Persona 5.

Shin Megami Tensei V takes place after a murder occurs in modern-day Tokyo that blocks the game’s protagonist from walking home. The detour may have been due to fate or another force, but he finds himself buried and unconscious.

When he awakens, he finds himself in a new Tokyo, a wasteland after the apocalypse known as Da’at. He quickly finds out that he’s not alone, as demons are closing in on his location. However, a mighty being known as a Nahobino appears and saves him. With this power, the protagonist can venture through Da’at and hopefully get some answers about what happened to his former home.

Shin Megami Tensei V is releasing for Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2021.
