The official Youtube channel for Atlus Japan has shared the 87th Daily Demon video for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V. This entry highlights Surt, a Norse deity known for being the king of giants. He was also the guardian of the land of fire, and the various, intense flames housed in his realm were said to be the originator of the stars in the sky. However, during Ragnarok, these same stars would then fall, initiating chaotic destruction.
Surt wields the unique elemental skill, Ragnarok, which deals severe fire damage. In addition, Surt is an iconic demon/persona throughout Shin Megami Tensei and Persona, to the point where the idea of a game not containing him feels wrong.
You can view the Shin Megami Tensei V Daily Demon video introducing Surt below:
Shin Megami Tensei V takes place after a murder occurs in modern-day Tokyo that blocks the game’s protagonist from walking home. The detour may have been due to fate or another force, but he finds himself buried and unconscious.
When he awakens, he finds himself in a new Tokyo, a wasteland after the apocalypse known as Da’at. He quickly finds out that he’s not alone, as demons are closing in on his location. However, a mighty being known as a Nahobino appears and saves him. With this power, the protagonist can venture through Da’at and hopefully get some answers about what happened to this former home.
Shin Megami Tensei V is releasing for Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2021.
