Shin Megami Tensei V Daily Demon Video #108 Showcases Universal God of Fertility Baal
The official Youtube channel for Atlus Japan has shared the 108th Daily Demon video for the upcoming Shin Megami Tensei V. This entry highlights Baal, a deity with a somewhat perplexing yet extensive history that is often misunderstood since the name ‘Baal’ can also be interpreted as the general title of Lord. The Baal referred to here was primarily worshipped in Middle Eastern regions, most notably Syria. He was worshipped as the universal god of fertility, including agriculture, thunder, and other related aspects.
Baal wields Tentarafoo, Makarakarn, as well as an electric spell and wind-based one, making him a diverse magic-centric demon boasting the ability to both support allies and ail foes. While Baal has appeared in several Shin Megami Tensei titles since around the series’ beginning, his Persona appearances are quite varied, with his debut being in the Persona 2 duology but then appearing for the first time afterward in Persona 5.

Shin Megami Tensei V takes place after a murder occurs in modern-day Tokyo that blocks the game’s protagonist from walking home. The detour may have been due to fate or another force, but he finds himself buried and unconscious.
When he awakens, he finds himself in a new Tokyo, a wasteland after the apocalypse known as Da’at. He quickly finds out that he’s not alone, as demons are closing in on his location. However, a mighty being known as a Nahobino appears and saves him. With this power, the protagonist can venture through Da’at and hopefully get some answers about what happened to his former home.
Shin Megami Tensei V is releasing for Nintendo Switch on November 12, 2021.
