Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s New DLC ‘The Nightmare’ Has Launched; Gets a Frightening New Trailer

Looks like Lara Croft still has a bit of exploring to do! Square Enix, Eidos-Montréal, and Crystal Dynamics have announced that ‘The Nightmare,’ the newest DLC adventures for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam. It’s out as a free download to all Season Pass holders, and it’s sold separately for $4.99.

‘The Nightmare’ DLC has Lara Croft facing off against familiar enemies and fallen friends from her past as you explore Croft Manor in a harrowing trial that’s bound to be a challenge for all players. She’s going through the trial in hopes of obtaining a powerful weapon, and to do so, in either single-player or co-op, you must help her complete the latest challenge tomb, Howl of the Monkey Gods.

This DLC offers a couple of new customization options for Lara that’ll make her even more bad to the bone. There’s the Scales of Q outfit that has a thick hide and solid bones, which provides twice as much resistance to melee attacks. The second equipment item is The Grip of Fear axe that possesses a primal design and is optimized for climbing and fighting. When using the axe, enemies are more likely to be knocked down and stay down for longer periods, which I’m sure is helpful when you’ve got a horde of enemies to deal with. The last customization addition is White Breath, a new skill that when unleashed, creates a cloud of hallucinogenic vapor on impact, poisoning enemies to fight against one another.

As part of the update, tombs from the main campaign, Judge’s Gaze, Underworld Gate, Howling Caves, Path of Battle, and Temple of the Sun are all now playable in Score Attack and Time Attack modes. Perhaps we’ll start seeing a couple of Shadow of the Tomb Raider tomb speedruns, eh?

Author’s take: I’m glad the Shadow of the Tomb Raider is still being supported! Definitely planning on checking out the new DLC.
