Sega & Tencent Not Appearing at E3 2023
Following confirmation that Ubisoft, Nintendo, and Microsoft will be skipping E3 this year, IGN has now revealed that two other major companies, Sega and Tencent (told via Level Inifite), will also not be present at the convention.
Sega provided the following comment:
“After careful consideration, we have decided not to participate in E3 2023 as an exhibitor. We look forward to sharing more information on announced and unannounced projects in the future.”
Devolver Digital will also not be appearing as usual, and they gave IGN the following comment:
“While we always root for the success of any industry gathering that promotes great games, we have never officially attended E3 and do not plan to do so this year unfortunately. We will also confirm we will not be hosting satellite events this year in Los Angeles, but look forward to returning to our beloved parking lot to do so if the opportunity arises for a future LACC-based event. We are happy to report that we are well underway in the production of our annual Devolver Direct scheduled for June which we will share news about soon.”
As of now, it is uncertain if EA, Square Enix, Embracer Group, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Take-Two, and Warner Bros. Games, which have yet to confirm their status for the event, will appear at all.
E3 has been facing severe difficulties in recent years, especially with publishers and developers often seeking to make digital shows of their own for emphasized focused presence and convenience. As a result, the strength of E3 has definitely waned, but perhaps it’ll surprise us this year. We’ll simply have to wait and see. However, as IGN points out, whether E3 will even happen now is immensely questionable.
