NetEase Games and Joker Studio have announced that Sea of Remnants, the free-to-play ocean-fantasy RPG with open-world exploration and turn-based combat, will begin closed beta testing in December 2026. The game is currently in development for PlayStation 5, PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and iOS and Android devices.
The announcement was made during gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 alongside a new trailer. Pre-registration for the closed beta is also open. In case you missed it, check out our recent interview with the team.
Sea of Remnants follows a puppetfolk sailor who has lost their memories. Players travel between the city of Orbtopia and a large archipelago, heading out on expeditions before returning with resources collected at sea.
Those expeditions incorporate roguelike elements. Enemies, bosses, potential crewmates, equipment, skills, and enhancements can change between voyages, requiring players to adjust their crew and combat strategy based on each run. Resources brought back to Orbtopia can be used for permanent character progression and preparation for later expeditions.
The new gamescom trailer highlights the game’s Set Sail–Explore–Collect–Return structure while showing several island environments, minigames, turn-based battles on land, and naval encounters at sea. It also focuses on the mystery surrounding the protagonist and why they continue returning to the same ocean despite having no memories.
Sea of Remnants does not currently have a release date. Its closed beta test is scheduled to begin in December 2026, with the full game in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, iOS, and Android.
