SAW: Genesis is moving into its next stage of development, with developer Broken Mirror Games confirming that the game’s Closed Alpha testing begins on July 16, 2026, ahead of a planned showcase at Gamescom 2026.
First revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026, the multiplayer horror title is being developed by Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios in collaboration with Lionsgate, with Bloober Team serving as publisher. The Closed Alpha marks the first public playtest as the team continues development toward an eventual Early Access release.
Players interested in participating were selected through a survey-based application process intended to build a varied testing group. However, players who want to jump in can sign up on the official website. The rollout began on July 10, with Steam keys and server access distributed in phases following onboarding. During the test, players can queue in groups of up to three as the Accused, while matchmaking fills the final slot with a fourth player controlling the Judge.
SAW: Genesis is a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer horror game set in the aftermath of World War I. Three players take on the role of the Accused, working together to survive a series of deadly traps and escape procedurally generated maps. Opposing them is a single Judge, who controls the deadly trials and pressures players into making difficult moral decisions as they fight to stay alive.
According to the development team, the Closed Alpha is focused on gathering feedback related to multiplayer balance, technical performance, core gameplay systems, and the game’s evolving meta. Additional testing phases are planned ahead of the game’s Early Access launch, with future playtests expected to expand in scale and accessibility.
SAW: Genesis is currently in development for PC via Steam.
