Samurai Warriors 5 Reveals New Playable Characters and Ultimate Skills

Koei Tecmo revealed new details for the Omega Force-developed 1 versus 1000 action game Samurai Warriors 5 coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam on July 27, 2021.

The publisher revealed details around the Ultimate Skills that each character can utilize. There are four types of Ultimate Skills available: Avalanche, enabling you to thrust your Great Spear into the earth to create a shockwave that stuns nearby enemies; Recuperation, where you can either increase your attack power or defense or recharge your Musou Gauge; Relentless Storm, where you throw enemies into the air, beat them to a pulp, then bring them down to the ground with a strike from your Great Spear; and Pulse, an Ultimate Skill suited for continuing combos, enabling you to connect Pulse Ultimate Skills and Musou attacks.

Additionally, Hyper Attacks will make a return, which can round up groups of enemies when connected to standard attacks.

Lastly, nine characters were announced including, Kanbei Kuroda, Shikanosuke Yamanaka, Sena, Hanbei Takenaka, Kazuuji Nakamura, Tadakatsu Honda, Toshiie Maeda, Oichi, and Nagamasa Azai. All of the game’s character models have been completely redesigned and re-imagined in a new style to help showcase the storyline’s Sengoku time period fashion.

Samurai Warriors 5 takes place after the end of the Ōnin War, during the Sengoku period, and tells the story of two of the most preeminent military commanders of this period – Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi. This title includes various eras from this period, including the younger years of Nobunaga, when he was known as “Owari’s Great Fool,” and the period of turmoil and upheaval leading to the Honnō-Ji Incident.

The character designs have been re-imagined to fit the storyline. There will be 27 playable characters at launch, including new and returning warriors, from Ieyasu Tokugawa and Hideyoshi Hashiba to Nō and Yoshimoto Imagawa. Original character Mitsuki – a Kōga Ninja, has also been added, with other new characters to be announced at a later date.
