Koei Tecmo announced 10 new characters to be added to the lineup of fighters in the Omega Force-developed 1 versus 1000 action game Samurai Warriors 5 coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam on July 27, 2021.
The characters introduced include previously non-playable characters from the series. However, given that they are just supporting cast members, they may not have the unique “power Attacks,” that the main group has. These characters may not be as powerful as some of the other characters, but they seem to know how to hold their own in battle.
Members of the new supporting cast include everyone from Nobunaga’s younger brother, Nobuyuki Oda, to Motonari Mōri’s grandson, Terumoto Mōri. Additional historic figures will also be featured, including Motonobu Okabe, Katsuyori Takeda, Motoharu Kikkawa, Dōsan Saitō, Yoshitatsu Saitō, Yoshiaki Ashikaga, Yoshikage Asakura, and Fujihide Mitsubuchi.
The roster has now been brought to 37 playable characters.
Samurai Warriors 5 takes place after the end of the Ōnin War, during the Sengoku period, and tells the story of two of the most preeminent military commanders of this period – Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi. This title includes various eras from this period, including the younger years of Nobunaga, when he was known as “Owari’s Great Fool,” and the period of turmoil and upheaval leading to the Honnō-Ji Incident.
The character designs have been re-imagined to fit the storyline. There will be 27 playable characters at launch, including new and returning warriors, from Ieyasu Tokugawa and Hideyoshi Hashiba to Nō and Yoshimoto Imagawa. Original character Mitsuki – a Kōga Ninja, has also been added, with other new characters to be announced at a later date.
