Samurai Shodown Reveals Yoshitora Tokugawa as Playable Character in New Trailer

SNK and Athlon Games released a new character trailer for their upcoming fighter, Samurai Shodown, coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on June 25, and Nintendo Switch and PC in Q4 of 2019.

The trailer introduces Yoshitora Tokugawa who has been with the series since Samurai Shodown V. He is the former student of Gaoh and Jubei and had more interest in women and partying than becoming a ruler. After running away from home, Yoshitora fights for what he believes in and is tested several times as he takes the steps needed to become Shogun. Yoshitora fights with seven swords, named after women save for one named after himself. Each sword used shows off a different ability and fighting style that confuses his enemies.

Samurai Shodown will reboot the 2D fighting game series by presenting it with a new 3D graphical look. However, the developer promises that it will retain the classic fantasy Samurai manga look of the series.

Samurai Shodown is set in the late 18th century after the events of Samurai Showdown V and prior to the events of the original game. As of right now, the game will see the return of 13 classic characters, including Haohmaru, Earthquake, and Galford, along with three brand new characters to the series. The game also has planned DLC characters for after launch.
