Samurai Shodown Receives Nintendo Switch Release Date

A Nintendo listing has provided a release date for the Nintendo Switch version of the SNK-developed fighter Samurai Shodown, now releasing on February 25.

The Switch version will launch with 16 characters, 3 of them being new to the series. The game also includes Rimururu, Kubikiri Basara, Kazuki Kazama, Wan Fu, and Hisame Shizumaru. However, there might be some graphical differences between each of the versions as is expected during the porting process to Switch.

Those who pre-order the game will also have access to Samurai Shodown! 2, which was initially developed for SNK’s Neo Geo Pocket. This will only be available on Nintendo Switch.

Samurai Shodown will reboot the 2D fighting game series by presenting it with a new 3D graphical look. However, the developer has worked hard to retain the classic fantasy Samurai manga look of the series. Samurai Shodown is set in the late 18th century after the events of Samurai Showdown V and before the events of the original game. Each of the fighters has a personal mission, which leads them to encounter many of their former foes.

Samurai Shodown is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
