Sam Fisher in ‘Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad’ is Not What Splinter Cell Fans Asked For

During Ubisoft’s E3 2019 Briefing, the publisher revealed a free-to-play action mobile RPG Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad for mobile devices developed by Ubisoft Owlient.

This reveal, aside from it being a free-to-play mobile game, set the bar for something magical that the developer could have announced. Elite Squad features various characters from across the Tom Clancy universe of games, one of which was the beloved Sam Fisher from the Splinter Cell series. This is a series that has long been dormant, the most recent release being Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist in 2013, but most importantly, the series is one that fans have been missing for this console generation.

So let’s get back to Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad and look who decided to show up, but no other than our old pal Sam Fisher running through a map in a cartoonish cel-shaded design. That’s right, in this mobile exclusive title players can add Sam Fisher to their party to run through the game’s 5V5 Battles and build a squad of other Tom Clancy characters.

There was a time when the only Tom Clancy game that I played was Splinter Cell. I enjoyed the single player stealth action along with the gripping narrative. Sam Fisher is such an iconic character that you can’t get enough of as he defies the odds of taking on a masses of enemies on his own with the help of the player.

However, a new espionage mission with Sam Fisher will have to wait, and the best fans are going to get is…Tom Clancy’s Elite. Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad set the tone to introduce a brand new Splinter Cell experience and I totally got my hopes up.

You can watch the reveal trailer below, with Sam Fisher poking his head out at around the 55-second mark:
