SaGa series Creator Confirms More SaGa Remasters are on the Way
Square Enix has just release SaGa Frontier Remastered in the west and the publisher doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon with delivering these classic JRPGs to new western gamers.
The reality of the series is that it never received critical success in the west due to its complex design and untraditional systems. The games are meant to be non-linear adventures across several stories and multiple protagonists where players chose how they’d wish to develop their characters.
In a live stream, SaGa series creator Akitoshi Kawazu stated that there are plans to remaster several other titles in the series including the original Romancing SaGa, SaGa Frontier 2, and Unlimited SaGa. Among them, SaGa Frontier 2 is considered to be the most approachable title, but no release window was provided. Looking back, Unlimited SaGa was not received, so it’ll be interesting if they approach this title with new systems and features to improve it.
Further, Kawazu-san confirmed that a new entry was in development, but he plans to focus on building the audience of fans first.
