SaGa Frontier Remastered Physical PS4 Release Cancelled, Switch Release Still Planned
Today, we pour one out for what could have been. The physical release of SaGa Frontier Remastered on PlayStation 4 has been canceled as announced by online retail store Play-Asia. However, the Nintendo Switch version is still in development.
There wasn’t a reason provided as to why the choices were made, but PlayAsia confirmed they will provide refunds to those who want them. In these events, it’s rare to see the studio reverse their decision, so if you were looking for a physical release, looks like the Switch is your only option.
SaGa Frontier Remastered will feature new stories for the game’s protagonist, including new characters such as Fuse. Players will meet a handful of heroes during the quest who each excel in certain skills and abilities. The game is being updated with HD visuals and the option to increase the speed of the gameplay. The developer has also added new events and cutscenes to give returning fans some unique adventures.
SaGa Frontier was first released on PlayStation in 1997. Players can assume the role of seven different protagonists and progress the story in a non-linear fashion. The battle system features 2D character sprites on a 3D field and allows players to choose various actions that allow them to learn new abilities during a match depending on the weapon they have equipped.
SaGa Frontier Remastered will launch on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC-via Steam, and iOS and Android devices on April 15.
