Nitro Plus & NetEase 2.5D Side Scroller ‘Rusty Rabbit’ Announced for PS5 & PC 2024; Written by Gen Urobuchi

During Tokyo Game Show 2023, NetEase Games and the visual novel company Nitro Plus announced their new upcoming 2.5D action side scroller Rusty Rabbit. This game will follow a rabbit named Stamp, who lives in the ruins of a frozen world abandoned by humanity.

Rabbits have inherited this planet after humans abandoned it thousands of years ago. One such rabbit is Stamp, an “old and eccentric” one who pilots his mech called Junkster. However, Stamp eventually finds himself within the planet’s lower levels, causing him to discover “D-TAM; terminals for storing information.” Stamp intends to use this device to hopefully learn more about his missing daughter and the truth of the world.

The game’s concept and screenplay were written by Gen Urobuchi of Nitro Plus, known for his work on the Fate/Zero light novel, Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Psycho-Pass.

Gen Urobuchi, writer and co-creator (NITRO PLUS), said the following about this announcement:

“While I have always had a great passion for the gaming industry, my work has mainly focused on creative adventures in traditional text format. I am filled with gratitude to NetEase Games for finally fulfilling my long-standing wish to create a game filled with action and adventure based on my stories.

I would also like to thank all the staff who lent their expertise to make this project a reality. Our goal is for Rusty Rabbit to bear the fruits of this creative challenge, and I’m excited for my fans and gaming fans everywhere to experience this game next year. Rusty Rabbit will feature customization and RPG-like progression, with players able to improve their mech with materials gathered from the ruins and defeat foes guarding the treasure. The mech itself boasts considerable mobility, letting players “Smash and Dash” their way through the mazelike ruins as they find rewards.
