Adventure Visual Novel ‘Root Film’ Confirms PS4 and Switch Release Date
PQube and Kadokawa Games have announced that their adventure mystery visual novel Root Film, will launch on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on March 19 in the west. This is confirming the date found on the eShop store earlier this month.
Directed by Hifumi Kono and featuring voice acting from Japanese idols i☆Ris , players are invited to unravel a 10-year-old mystery lost in a 35 mm film. They will unwittingly become the detective in their very own murder mystery on the set of “Root Film.”
Root Film is about a TV series called “Shimane Mystery Drama Project,” which had been canceled 10 years before the game’s events. Three teams are put together in hopes of rebooting the project, but things are brought to a standstill when 23-year-old Rintar Yagumo and his coworkers are disrupted by a murder that takes place.
The gameplay in the Root Film has a mix between visual novel and adventure elements. Players will use their intuition to pick out keywords during conversation and pry further into other’s statements. There is a feature known as Max Mode when the player confronts other characters to resolve a mystery. This has the interface of a fighting-game as they use the evidence collected to rebut the lies of those accused.
We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date with the development and release of Root Film.
