Root Letter Sequel ‘Root Film’ Gets PS4 and Switch Release Window and Reveals Physical Limited Edition

PQube announced the Kadokawa Games-developed adventure visual novel, Root Film, will launch on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch worldwide in Q1 2021.

Root Film is about a TV series, called “Shimane Mystery Drama Project”, which had been canceled 10 years before the events of the game. Three teams are put together in hopes to reboot the project, but things are brought to a standstill when 23-year-old Rintar Yagumo and his coworkers are disrupted by a murder that takes place.

Now, he and the cast of character will be pulled deeper into the mystery as they learn more about the events and the truth of Root Film.

The publisher also revealed a Limited Edition to be hosted by online retailer Rice Digital that contains a 100-page art book.

Gameplay in the Root Film has a mix between a visual novel and adventure elements. Players will be able to use their intuition to pick out keywords during conversation and pry further into other’s statements. There is a feature known as Max Mode when the player confronts other characters to resolve a mystery. This has the interface of a fighting-game as they use the evidence collected to rebut the lies of those they are accusing.

We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date with the development and release of Root Film.
