Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake Details New & Returning Gameplay Systems; Relationship Chart, Destiny, Tales & More

Koei Tecmo has shared new gameplay details for the previously announced Kou Shibusawa-developed strategy game Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake is based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII with Power Up Kit, complete with both the “All Officers Play” and “All Periods Scenarios” features, as well as a host of new content to deliver the most complete Romance of the Three Kingdoms experience to date.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake has increased the number of officers from 600 to 1,000, providing new events and relationship opportunities that weren’t possible in the original game. Additionally, the All Periods Scenarios now offers over 55 scenarios, including fictitious ones, culminating in the most options seen in the series. As a result, players can choose any officer and time period they’d prefer to start in.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake features new visuals and voicework, with the former combining 2D and 3D artwork. Animated movies will have full voicework for important events.

The battlefield map has changed from being solely 2D to now being a mix of 2D and 3D, with landscapes rendered as ink paintings and battlefields crafted with “the latest 3D technology.”

The combat of Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake has been restructured significantly, with an improved tempo and balance. However, the experience is still turn-based, retaining key features like beginner approachability and the utilization of terrain.

A new feature is Tales, letting “players check the conditions, outcomes, and branching of different events, so they know how to trigger the ones they want or how to avoid other events altogether.” Historical and general events are both displayed, enabling transparency for progression.

Destiny is the fate connecting two officers, with Symbiotic and Antagonistic types, which go as you’d expect. Non-historically related characters can also be linked by Destiny depending on progression decisions. Linked Forge is another new feature that will provide major benefits during battles and missions.

To keep track of character relationships and the effects of Destiny, a Relationship Chart has been implemented for greater transparency. Relationships will boast dynamic growth, too, with significant events like marriage being depicted.
