Sting has announced that the first title in the Dept. Heaven series, Riviera: The Promised Land, is now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop with a 15% discount until December 5, 2024. This port follows the previous Steam release.
Originally released on Wonderswan, Riviera tells the story of a grim angel called Ein who gave up his wings to create his divine weapon, Einherjar. During his mission to pass judgment on Riviera for its association with demons, he ends up separating from his senpai, Ledah, and losing his memories.
After waking up, he gets to know those who live in Riviera and learns more about their struggles. As he bonds with those individuals, he eventually grows attached to them and figures out truths that would otherwise be forever lost if he had accomplished his mission.
The game features a unique combat system with a focus on breakable items. Because those actions have limited durability, players have to be careful when choosing whether to use a specific weapon or recovery item.
Riviera: The Promised Land was later remade on the Game Boy Advance and remastered on PSP, Mobile, and PC. Atlus released the GBA and PSP versions in English, and Sting released the recent Steam version with various new features.
The list of new additions includes BGM style choices, an improved interface, auto-save, and new modes that make the experience easier.
