New River City: Rival Showdown Trailer Introduces Gameplay Systems

Arc System Works has shared a new trailer for their upcoming classic beat ’em up River CityRival Showdown, highlighting the basics of the gameplay systems, such as combat, additional story events, and investigation.

River CityRival Showdown  has been “rebuilt from the ground up.” The game was initially released on Nintendo 3DS in 2017, but this modern release isn’t a straight port of the game. This updated version allows players to experience the game through a modern lens with refined controls, improved backgrounds, and online modes. Further, returning players will find a 2D game mode to experience the game in a different way.

The online mode of River CityRival Showdown is titled Double Dragon Duel 2023, and it comes bundled with the game. Players can select from a roster of characters from across various titles and fight it out. The publisher also confirmed that there will be unlockable characters, but you’ll have to look for them.

During gameplay, players can explore branching paths as they fight their way through dangerous streets. This release features new story events that lead to multiple endings. Characters can utilize various special techniques against enemies along with combos to survive the many encounters.
