Wayforward announced that their beat ’em up River City Girls will launch on PlayStation 5 on January 18, 2022.
The PS5 version will feature DualSense controller support along with Activity functionality. The game was initially released in 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The publisher mentioned that this will be a digital release, but perhaps a physical release might be available down the line.
River City Girls tells the story of Kyoko and Misako, two high-schoolers who know a thing or two about defending themselves as they explore the six regions of River City to rescue their kidnapped boyfriends, who happen to Kunio and Riki. Players will utilize the game’s combo mechanics which includes counters, throws, and special attacks as they fight their way through the streets. They’ll also be able to interact with NPCs, which includes guest stars from previous River City titles.
Mainstay features like items and food shops will also be returning including various ways to unlock new abilities. The girls will even be about to wield weapons and recruit defeated foes to join them in battle.
We’ll keep you updated on future Wayforward announcements and the River City Girls series, which is receiving a sequel.
