Retro Roguelike Platformer ‘Xenon Valkyrie+’ Has Launched on the Nintendo Switch

Had a chance to play through the Xenon Valkyrie+ Nintendo Switch demo that we mentioned last month? Well, we’re happy to share that now you can start the new year by playing the “old-school cool” game in all of its glory. Indie developer and publisher Cowcat Games has announced that their throwback roguelike platformer with RPG elements Xenon Valkyrie+ is now available on Nintendo Switch for $9.99 via the Nintendo eShop.

Here’s a short and sweet list of the Nintendo Switch version features:

  • Joy-Con and Pro Controller supported
  • TV and handheld modes
  • 18 in-game achievements to unlock
  • Fully translated into 5 languages : English, French, Spanish, Italian, German

Xenon Valkyrie+ features old-school gameplay, pixel art, and quality chiptune music. In the game, you explore randomly generated worlds, encounter many unique characters, obtain various weapons and items, uncover secrets, and more.

You might be wondering, “why does the title of the game have a plus sign?”. It’s because the game is a revamped version of Xenon Valkyrie, from solo developer Diabolical Mind (Daniel Fernandez Chavez), that was originally released on PC.

Xenon Valkyrie+, the new and improved version of Xenon Valkyrie, includes major gameplay improvements, translations, and additions exclusively for consoles, such as the Nintendo Switch. The game is also available on PS4, PS Vita, Xbox One, and PC.

Expect to find a review of the game from us very, very soon. For now, take a look at Xenon Valkyrie+‘s launch trailer and screenshots below:

Author’s Take: Did you know that Xenon is a chemical element with symbol Xe and atomic number 54? I didn’t know that, but I do know that Xenon Valkyrie+ looks pretty rad.
